Introduction
My work with Thales brought together two important strands of my professional experience: Agile delivery and UX/UI. Working within a major international technology and engineering organisation, my role combined Scrum Master responsibilities with user experience and interface consultancy, supporting both the way the team worked and the digital products it was delivering.
The engagement provided an opportunity to apply Agile principles in a complex enterprise environment while retaining a strong focus on users and the quality of the digital experience. It reflected the evolution of my consultancy role from predominantly UX/UI and front-end work towards a broader combination of delivery leadership, Agile practice and digital consultancy.
Supporting Agile Delivery in a Complex Environment
Working within Thales meant operating in an environment where technology, engineering and business requirements could be complex. Effective delivery therefore depended not only on individual technical skills, but also on how well the team collaborated, prioritised its work and responded to changing requirements.
As Scrum Master, an important part of my role was helping the team apply Agile and Scrum practices effectively, facilitating collaboration and supporting a delivery environment in which problems could be identified and addressed progressively.
Combining Agile and UX/UI
The engagement was particularly valuable because it allowed me to combine Scrum Master responsibilities with my established UX/UI experience.
These disciplines complement each other well. Agile provides a framework for iterative delivery and continuous improvement, while UX helps ensure that what is being delivered remains focused on the people who will ultimately use it. Bringing both perspectives to the engagement allowed me to contribute to the delivery process as well as the quality of the resulting user experience.
From Specialist to Broader Digital Consultancy
Thales also illustrates how my professional role had evolved over time. Earlier engagements had often centred on front-end development and UX/UI, but increasingly my work involved helping teams organise and deliver digital products as well as designing them.
That broader combination of Agile delivery, UX/UI and digital consultancy enables technical, user and business considerations to be viewed together rather than as separate parts of a project.
