Ford UK

UX/UI consultancy for Ford, working on digital interfaces within the complex environment of one of the world’s largest and most recognisable automotive brands.

Introduction

Working with Ford provided the opportunity to apply UX/UI expertise within a major international automotive organisation, where digital products needed to support a globally recognised brand while meeting the practical needs of customers.

My involvement focused on user experience and interface design, working within an established digital environment and considering how information, functionality and user journeys could be presented clearly and consistently. The project provided further experience of delivering UX/UI work within a large enterprise, where design decisions needed to take account of existing systems, brand standards and wider business requirements.

UX/UI Within a Global Organisation

Working within an organisation the size of Ford meant designing in an environment where digital experiences needed to accommodate established brand standards, existing technology and complex business requirements.

Rather than treating an interface as an isolated design exercise, the work required consideration of how individual user journeys fitted into Ford’s wider digital ecosystem and how customers would interact with information and functionality across that experience.

Designing Around the Customer Journey

My work focused on UX/UI, considering how interfaces and interactions could make complex information easier for customers to understand and use.

Automotive digital experiences can involve considerable amounts of information and numerous decisions. Good UX therefore depends on establishing clear hierarchy, intuitive navigation and logical journeys that help users progress without introducing unnecessary complexity.

Working Within Enterprise Constraints

Large organisations inevitably bring constraints that influence digital design. Existing systems, technical architecture, brand guidelines and the requirements of different stakeholders all need to be considered alongside the needs of the user.

The Ford project provided valuable experience of working within those constraints while continuing to advocate for clear, usable digital experiences. It reinforced an important aspect of consultancy: the best solution is not simply the ideal design in isolation, but one that successfully balances users, technology and business requirements.
