Sportlabs
UX/UI and front-end development for Sportlabs, working on digital products supporting online sports participation and booking services.
Introduction
Sportlabs specialised in digital technology for sport, developing online services that helped people find facilities, book activities and participate more easily. Working with the company provided an opportunity to apply UX/UI and front-end development skills to digital products where ease of use and straightforward customer journeys were particularly important.
My work involved helping translate functional requirements into clear, usable interfaces, combining user experience considerations with practical front-end implementation. The project added another dimension to my experience of developing transactional digital services designed around real user tasks.

Designing Around Real User Tasks
Sportlabs developed digital services that connected people with sporting activities and facilities. This meant the user experience needed to make practical tasks such as finding a venue, checking availability and making a booking as straightforward as possible.
The work provided an opportunity to think about interfaces not simply as collections of pages, but as journeys that needed to guide users efficiently from discovering an activity through to taking action.
Combining UX/UI and Front-End Development
My involvement combined UX/UI thinking with hands-on front-end development, helping translate functional and business requirements into clear, usable interfaces.
Working across design and implementation made it possible to consider both sides of the experience: how users would interact with the service and how those interactions could be delivered effectively within the underlying technology.
Digital Services That Encourage Participation
What made the Sportlabs work particularly interesting was the connection between the digital experience and something happening in the real world. The website or application was not the final destination; its purpose was to help people find opportunities to participate in sport and make accessing those opportunities easier.
That reinforced a principle that has remained important throughout my digital work: successful technology should simplify the task the user is trying to accomplish rather than introduce unnecessary complexity.
